According to Livability, Rockville rose to rank #13 in their 2017 Top 100 Best Places to Live. Last year the City was rated #17 so it’s on the way up. Rockville was compared to 2,000 cities with populations between 20,000 and 350,000.
Here’s what Livability has to say:
Appearing four straight years on the Best Places to Live list is Rockville, an upscale city where the median income for families is more than $100,000. The average home price is $475,000, and nearly every home in the city of Rockville is within a short walk to a city park. Rockville is part of the Interstate 270 Technology Corridor that houses many software and biotech companies and federal government agencies.
The City of Rockville sent out a press release describing how Rockville met the criteria with “65 parks, which put over 1,000 acres of parkland within the city’s 13.6 square miles and each home is within a short walk of a park.”
Livability partners with the Initiative for Creativity and Innovation in Cities at New York University’s Schools of Professional Studies and a team from Emsi (which models economic data into actionable intelligence for city leaders) to use 40 data points to determine the rankings. The analysis looked at economics, housing, amenities, infrastructure, demographics, social and civic capital, education, and health care.
