What’s Open and Closed on Independence Day

Of course, for such a national holiday, most government facilities will be closed on the 4th of July for Independence Day.


The following City of Rockville facilities will be closed: City Hall, the Lincoln Park, Thomas Farm, and Twinbrook Community Centers; the Rockville Senior Center; Croydon Creek Nature Center; Glenview Mansion, and F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre/box office will all be closed.

Montgomery County government offices, libraries, Shady Grove Processing Facility and Transfer Station will also be closed. Recreation administrative offices, senior centers, and recreation centers will be closed.

MCPS Schools and Administrative Offices will be closed.

State offices and courts will be closed.


If you want to swim, the pools will be open!
– The Rockville Swim and Fitness Center will be open with a closing time of 6 PM.
– The County’s indoor and outdoor pools will be open. Besides the Germantown Indoor Pool which closes at 3 PM, all other pools will close at 6 PM.

County Liquor stores will also be open 10 AM to 6 PM.


The City of Rockville recycling, yard waste, and refuse will not be collected on Tuesday, July 4, 2017. After the regular collection on Monday, July 3rd, collections will be made one day later through Friday.

Same goes for the County’s refuse/recycling pickup. There will be no July 4 collection and collection will slide by one day.

Parking at city-owned and county-owned meters will be free. Parking at county public garages and lots will also be free on the 4th.

Ride On will operate on a Saturday schedule.
